Differentiated Instructional Interventions

  • An instructional focus on early literacy and language because of their importance to life-long independence, productivity and participation

  • Evidence-based Tier 1 instruction that addresses: vocabulary, phonological awareness, letter/sound knowledge, and print awareness

  • Progress-monitoring and decision-making for determining appropriate intervention tier and timing of changes Identification of Tier 2 and Tier 3 students based on quarterly progress monitoring

  • For children not progressing in Tier 1, use of supplemental Tier 2 intervention that maintains the same scope and sequence of an evidence-based Tier 1 but with increases in intensity through increased opportunities to respond (OTR)

  • For children not progressing in Tier 2, the use of a Tier 3 intervention that employs explicit carefully designed instruction that helps students achieve fluency on a restricted set of skills known to be most critical for later school success.
