Materials: Pictures (specified multisyllabic words selected from Biemiller root words)
Introduce the activity: Place pictures in a pile in the middle of the table, face down.
Today we are going to clap and say the first part of some words. : First,
let’s say the names of all of these pictures. Show each picture and have the
children say the name with you. If children do not know the name of a picture say,
This is ______. What is this? Put the picture back in the deck and review it
until children are familiar with all of the pictures.
Review: Pick the top picture from the pile. The first word is xx. Everybody say the
word. Xx. Listen, while I clap and say xx. x (clap) x (clap). Everyone clap and say
xx with me. X (clap) x (clap). (Give individual turns; repeat with 1-2 additional pictures
if children need more review).
Model it: Now, listen while I clap and say the first part (emphasize) of xx.
